Dr. Frederick White, Principal Project Coordinator
Dr. Fred White is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of expertise in Investment Management, working with several global firms and the City of Los Angeles ("City"). His extensive experience spans commercial real estate (“CRE”) property markets and affordable housing throughout the United States, contributing to investments exceeding $13 billion.
Most recently, Dr. White has advised organizations across multiple sectors, operationalizing research that encourages institutional asset owners to increase capital allocations into affordable housing and various CRE investment vehicles.
In his previous role with the City, Dr. White served in the Mayor's Office, where he led the implementation of the City's $120 million Housing Challenge, in partnership with the LA Housing Department. He also headed the West Region for State Street Bank's inaugural CRE lending platform, helping the firm achieve $1 billion in mortgages nationwide during its first year.
Earlier in his career, Dr. White was a Senior Director in TIAA's Global Real Estate unit, where he managed mortgage origination, real estate acquisitions, and underwrote real estate impact investments nationally, including affordable housing initiatives. He was instrumental in establishing TIAA's West Coast debt origination presence, launching and expanding the Newport Beach and San Francisco commercial mortgage origination offices.
Dr. White has previously held roles at Bank of America and LaSalle Investment Management. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the California Housing Finance Agency (“CalHFA”), where he chairs the New Opportunities Subcommittee and is a member of the Accounting Subcommittee. He was appointed to the board by the Governor in 2021. Dr. White is also a part time instructor with Westcliff University and is a founding member of the African American Real Estate Professionals Los Angeles (“AAREPLA”).
Dr. White holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Florida International University. He also earned an MBA from North Carolina Central University and a B.A. in Business Administration from Morehouse College.
Beyond his professional life, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, mentoring, exploring history, staying active through fitness training, practicing photography, traveling to South America, and enjoying music.
